The Beginning

Why Dr. Rivera Started ShieldPest

Dr. Carlos Rivera spent eight years as a research entomologist at Texas A&M's Department of Entomology before a frustrating experience as a homeowner convinced him the residential pest control industry had a fundamental problem: technicians were applying treatments without understanding the biology of the pests they were targeting.

"Most pest control is based on calendar schedules and product labels, not pest biology," he says. "The result is unnecessary chemical use, inconsistent results, and clients who pay for services that don't actually solve their problem."

ShieldPest launched in Dallas in 2005 with a different operating model: every treatment protocol is designed around the biology, behavior, and life cycle of the target species. Twenty years later, that commitment to scientific rigor remains the defining characteristic of everything we do.
